Frequently Asked Questions
Can I become an altruistic organ donor?
Eurotransplant is responsible for the allocation of donor organs in its member countries and supports programs such as crossover (paired) donation and living donor matching. However, Eurotransplant does not directly manage the donation process.
If you are interested in becoming an altruistic (non-directed) donor, you should contact the national competent authority in your country. They handle donor evaluation and coordination.
Please note that the rules and legislation regarding altruistic donation can vary by member state, so it's important to consult with the appropriate national authority for specific procedures and requirements.
Can I offer transport services for organ donation?
Eurotransplant is not responsible for organizing national organ transport. If you would like to offer transport services in this area, please contact the national competent authority or national donor organization in your country.
Can someone from outside the Eurotransplant region receive an organ through Eurotransplant?
Eurotransplant is responsible for the allocation of donor organs in its 8 member states: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Slovenia. However, Eurotransplant is not involved in patient registration for the waiting list.
If someone from outside the Eurotransplant region needs an organ transplant, their treating physician must refer them to a transplant center within a Eurotransplant member country. The center will assess the patient and decide whether to register them on the waiting list.
Can I find out my position on the Eurotransplant waiting list?
Eurotransplant does not maintain a numbered waiting list where patients move up over time. Instead, for each new donor, a list is generated using a matching algorithm to identify the most suitable recipients at that specific moment. For more information on your individual situation, please contact your transplant center or treating physician.
