Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

Help & Reset page

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra step to logging in by requiring both a password and a second verification method. MFA is being implemented to better protect your account and data from unauthorized access and to comply with international data security regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will MFA become mandatory?

The activation of MFA will take place per center. Each center or lab will have a different date on which MFA becomes mandatory. Your center or lab will be informed in time about your specific start date.

Do I have to use MFA every time I log in?

The duration of a session remains the same as before. Within that session duration, you do not have to log in again via MFA.

Can I disable MFA if I find it inconvenient?

No, MFA is mandatory for all users.

How does MFA improve security?

MFA significantly enhances account security by requiring both a password and a second verification method. This reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if login credentials are compromised.

Will MFA slow down my login process?

MFA introduces a minimal additional step during login. However, the slight delay is offset by the substantial improvement in system and data security.

What to do if more than one person is using the same account?

To ensure that each user can be properly verified through MFA, it is essential that every individual has their own account. MFA is designed to confirm a user's identity, and therefore cannot be used with shared accounts. So each person will need their own account.

Do I need to install an app on my phone?

Yes, to setup MFA you will need to install an app. For example, Google Authenticator or Microsoft authenticator.

How do I set up MFA for my account?

After the regular login screen, you will see an instruction screen to set up MFA in three steps:

  • Step 1. Download an authenticator app if you don’t have one already
  • Step 2. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
  • Step 3. Your app will now show a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Use this code the next time you log in.
Can I use SMS or email instead of an authenticator app?

In situations where you are unable to use your authenticator app, you have the possibility to receive an email with a one-time pincode to login. However, this option is recommended only if you are unable to use an authenticator app on your mobile device.

Please note that SMS verification is not available as an alternative.

As with regular login (without MFA), you will still need a working device, a working internet connection and valid login credentials.

Can I set up MFA on multiple devices?

Yes, you can activate MFA on multiple devices, how it works depends on the service or app you're using:

  • Google Authenticator: supports syncing across devices via your Google account. You can get MFA codes on multiple devices if you're signed in with the same Google account.
  • Microsoft Authenticator: Allows syncing through your Microsoft account, mostly optimized for Microsoft services.

We kindly refer you to the application's official support resources for assistance.

Is MFA required for all applications?

All Eurotransplant applications which require a member login, are protected by MFA.

Can I trust my device so I don’t have to enter a code every time?

The duration of a session remains the same as before. Within that session duration, you do not have to log in again via MFA.

I am a new user at a centre or lab where MFA is required (setting up your MFA account after a password reset)

A new user will always be asked to change their password on the first time logging in. After this password reset, you will have to fill in your new credentials to start the setup for your MFA. Next, you will see an instruction screen to set up MFA in three steps:

Step 1. Download an authenticator app if you don’t have one already
Step 2. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app
Step 3. Your app will now show a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Use this code the next time you log in.

Troubleshooting

I am asked to enter a code but the instruction screen containing a QR code does not appear.

The screen with the QR code should only appear the first time you log in with MFA. After that, you only need to enter the code generated by your authenticator app.
If the QR code screen does not appear when logging in with MFA for the first time, this may be caused by an active VPN connection. Try disconnecting your VPN before you login. If this is not an option for you, please follow the steps below this page under 'Steps to Reset MFA.'

I’m not seeing a verification code in my authenticator app

After having succesfully followed the steps to set up your authenticator app, you should see an added Eurotransplant-account in the list of your authenticator app. If needed, tap the account name to view a six-digit code that refreshes automatically.

If you chose to receive a code via e-mail, please check the inbox of the (partly censored) e-mailaddress that is specified.

I lost my phone or uninstalled the app

In situations where you are unable to use your authenticator app (for example, if you’ve lost your phone or accidentally uninstalled the app), you have the possibility to reset your MFA on a different mobile device. Reinstall the authenticator app and set up MFA for your account again. Follow the steps below this page under 'Steps to Reset MFA.'

My code isn’t working

Check the code carefully. If it still doesn't work, please go back to the login page and try again.

If it still does not work correctly, you have the possibility to request a one-time code via e-mail. For future logins, it is recommended to reinstall the authenticator app and set up MFA for your account again. Follow the steps below this page under 'Steps to Reset MFA.'

I don’t have (internet access on) my mobile phone

You will be informed well in advance of the date on which your account will switch to MFA. Ensure that you have access to a functioning mobile phone with an active internet connection when logging in to the system. As with regular login (without MFA), you will still need a working internet connection and valid login credentials.

I’m having trouble setting up my account after skipping the password change prompt.

Users are periodically prompted to change their password and may choose to skip this step. However, skipping the password change during MFA setup can cause account setup issues. To avoid problems, we strongly recommend changing your password when prompted while setting up MFA. If you skipped this step, please change your password immediately to complete setup successfully.

Steps to reset MFA

In situations where it is unexpectedly no longer possible for you to use your authenticator app (for example, if you’ve lost your phone or accidentally uninstalled the app), you have the possibility to clear your current MFA registration and to register again on a different mobile device. Please follow these steps if this situation applies to you.

  1. Go to https://login-prd.txnet.eu/oamcustompages/pages/resetMfa.jsp
  2. Login with your credentials

Please note that you will be prompted to enter a PIN from your authenticator application. This step is required, as identity verification remains necessary before resetting your MFA registration. If the reason for your reset request is that you no longer have access to your previous authenticator application, please select “Alternative option: e-mail” to proceed.

3. Click the button ‘Reset MFA’ and you will see a confirmation screen
4. Click the sign out/log out button
5. Choose to set up your Authenticator App
6. Follow the steps on the MFA Set up page with your working mobile device
