Wilfred van der Deijl, Eurotransplant’s system architect, wins the Editors' Award at the ODTUG-conference in Daytona Beach
On June 19th, 2007 Wilfred van der Deijl, Eurotransplant's system architect, has won the Editors' Award for best paper at the international congress of the Oracle Development Tools User Group: http://www.oratransplant.nl/2007/06/19/just-won-the-odtug-editors-choice-award/
Being a winner with the first paper ever submitted is an accomplishment to be really proud on. A great reward for Wilfred, which also radiates on our organization in general and the IT-department in particular.
For the outsiders a short explanation of what Wilfred has presented in his paper. The tool and technique developed by Wilfred concern the possibility to seamlessly and simply migrate from the Oracle Webforms technology to standard web pages. The typical Oracle webforms layout disappears and is replaced by the standard look-and-feel with web-buttons, like 'Find' and 'Save', the users know and appreciate from existing web applications.
The main advantages of the approach are that existing Oracle webforms don't have to be completely rebuild as Java pages. With the tool developed by Wilfred relatively simple modifications of the pages are sufficient to accomplish the new look-and-feel. This means that the complete transition to the new web-world, as wished by our users, can be accomplished quickly without the need for major investments. In addition, the transition from webforms to the web can be realized behind the screens at the appropriate time. An approach that not only by Eurotransplant is considered as Columbus' Egg!
